This first psalm introduces the One who is celebrated in the other 149 songs. The Lord we worship is not an impersonal deity who turns a blind eye to good and evil in the world. He is intimately acquianted with the ways of those called by his name. He not only sees what is going on but also punishes the wicked and protects those who look to him, though we may not always see it.. The Lord nourishes and strengthens those whom he has planted like trees in his Kingdom. Indeed, the Lord watches over the paths of the godly.

Prayer for the week: Watchful Lord, we are blessed to call you Father. We thank you for watching over us in our daily tasks and for picking us up when we stumble and fall. Guide us on the path that leads to your righteousness, and strengthen us to serve you. Amen.
