And the women of the town said to Naomi, "Praise the Lord who has given you a family redeemer today!  May he be famous in Israel."

Ruth 4:14

Throughout the book of Ruth, the writer recognizes many instances of God's sovereignty and his kindness to an undeserving people.  Although Naomi and Ruth lived during an era of great lawlessness and unfaithfulness in Israel, God still sustained and blessed his people.  Through that blessing, the Lord drew other people to himself as well.  Our God still rules over heaven and earth.  Let us praise him for showing compassion to us and blessing us.  In this way others may also be encouraged to praise God for his goodness to them.

Prayer for the week: God our Savior, we praise you for your compassion.  Your watchful eyes always see our needs.  Nourish and sustain us.  Keep our hearts from becoming cold and ungrateful for your goodness and provision.  We thank you for all you have given us.  Amen.
