That is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God.Let us cling to him and never stop trusting him.

In Old Testament times, the high priest went into the Most Holy Place as the  representative of the people, making atonement for their sins.  He was human, just like the people he represented, and so he could identify with them.  Jesus Christ is our great High Priest, who has entered heaven for us.  Like earthly high priests, Jesus can identify with us because he is human like us.  Yet there is one great difference: He is sinless, so he can fully atone for our sins without having to atone for his own as well.  Praise God that he has given us a High Priest who can sympathize with our weakneses while making full atonement for us through his own blood.

Prayer for the week: Holy God, we praise you for allowing us to come before you with confidence because of the atonement made by our High Priest, Jesus Christ.  Thank you for the great mercy you have shown us in him, who is able to identify with our weaknesses.  Amen.
