So humble yourselves before God.  Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.

James 4:7-8a

In our media dominated society, image is everything, so people are constantly trying to draw attention to themselves in a positive way.  The true humility that God desires, however, calls no attention to itself.  Those who possess this type of humility rarely receive acclaim in this world, but God assures us that he will honor them.  With this in mind, let us exhibit true humility, seeking only to gain the favor of God, whose judgment is far more important than fleeting popular opinion.

Prayer for the week: O Lord, you set the example for us by humbling yourself to become human and submitting to a terrible death on the cross.  Transform us, we pray, by this self-sacrificing love, that we may be found among the truly humble ones to whom you delight to show your favor. Amen.
