Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it.

Hebrews 1:1-2

God  spoke of the faith to our ancestors many times and in many ways, though his words were not always heeded.  For hundreds of years, various prophets communicated God's messages to his people.  After the closing of the Old Testament canon, however, there seems to have been a time of silence regarding prophecy.  But finally, as God had promised, he spoke to his people definitively through his Son.  Jesus is the Word of God, embodying all that the Father wants to communicate to us about himself.  Let us give thanks for Jesus Christ, the Word of God, who speaks to us today.

Prayer for the week: O God who speaks, we thank you for sending your Son, the Word, to speak to us.  Help us to listen to him so that we might understand who you are and what you desire of us.  Amen.
