Pastor's Notes — Finally Leaving Egypt

Week of August 17, 2008

Exodus 16:2-15

The Israelites find themselves in the desert without food and water.  Literally starving to death, they begin complaining; some want to rebel and some want to return to Egypt.  Aaron asks, "What do you want?"  "We want bread!"  shout the people.  Aaron shockingly replies, "Good, you will see the glory."  God then miraculously rains down manna (which means "What is it?")  from heaven which the people are invited to share with one another.  The people then turn their back on Egypt and its power and face the wilderness and its uncertainty, where they amazingly see the glory.  What part of Egypt are you still clinging to?  Turn your back on that which keeps you in the wilderness and leads to uncertainty.  Look to God and see the glory!

Weekly Prayer

As you have blessed us, O God, we are eager to share.  May we offer more than crumbs from your table.  May none be sent away from the blessings you intend for all.  We want our offerings to preserve and extend life to your children wherever our influence can reach.  We dedicate ourselves to do and be that your reign of unity and peace may come.  Amen.
